Minister of Railways travels to Lhasa by experimental train
www.chinanews.cn 2006-06-21 17:30:10
The Qinghai-Tibet Railway will start trial operations on July.1.
Chinanews, June 21 C Recently, Liu Zhijun, Chinese Minister of Railways,
started his Tibetan journey from Beijing. He led officials from the
Ministry of Railways traveling through the newly-built Qinghai-Tibet
Railway in 3 days, examining its preparatory work before its trial run
scheduled on July 1.
Liu pointed out the problems in the course of the ride. When the train
encountered sudden bumping, he suggested it was caused by the technical
problems of the railway, and asked related officials to solve it. He also
required local railway bureaus to recycle the materials of railway
constructions. He pointed out the spare tracks should not be put beside
the railway. He was upset when he saw cows and sheep finding food on the
railway tracks, and thus he required the public security agencies of the
railway and local governments to send necessary security knowledge to
local farmers and herdsmen, helping to make everyone know the meaning of
protecting the railway.
When the experimental train went through the permafrost area, Liu pointed
out to the officials to make regular investigation of the frozen earth,
to guarantee the travel safety of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.
Liu then talked with Wang Xinwen, head of the Lhasa Railway Station,
through GSM-R communication equipment, the first Chinese railway mobile
communication system to be applied, receiving Wang's report about the
ongoing preparatory work.
When Liu arrived in Lhasa, he immediately convened meetings at which he
studied the preparatory work to the trail run of the Qinghai-Tibet
Railway together with local officials, and expressed his wishes for the
successful trial operation.
