Rich natural gas resources discovered

Chinanews, Beijing, July 14 - An officer from the Ministry of Land and
Resources said on July 13 that a great discovery had been made in ocean
natural gas prospecting, when a natural gas field was found in the
LW3-1-1 natural gas well with an estimated reserve of more than 100
billion cubic meters, and it might be the biggest natural gas field in
the Chinese sea area.
This discovery also proved that the Zhujiang River Estuary Basin is a
gas-rich section, which will enhance China's confidence in prospecting
for oil and gas in the South China Sea in the future.
China has done much research and prospecting work in this sea area since
the 1990s. The Ministry of Land and Resources has started selecting
strategic oil and natural gas resources blocks, and the Oil and Gas
Prospecting Project in Continental Slopes in the North of South China Sea
has been named among the first batch of the strategic blocks. The project
started in 2004 with the support of national finance.
