HELSINKI -- China and the European Union (EU) called on Iran on Saturday
to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1696 and the resolutions of
the UN nuclear watch dog.

"Leaders welcomed the proposals put forward by France, Germany, the
United Kingdom, endorsed by the United States, the Russian Federation and
China, with the support of the European Union's High Representative, for
a long-term and comprehensive arrangement with Iran based on mutual
respect and mutual confidence," said a joint statement released after an
EU-China summit.

The United Sates has been pushing for sanctions against Tehran. But the
EU is obviously in favor of continued talks with the country.
